Students often struggle on the non calculator paper when asked to divide a number by a decimal. There are several ways in which this can be done. But perhaps the easiest method is as follows. If you are asked to divide 400 by 0.2 what can you do? Firstly multiply both numbers by 10. 400 x 10 = 4000 0.2 x 10 = 2. We can now divide 4000 by 2 which is 2000 and that is your answer. In other words 400 divided by 0.2 = 2000.
